Home Décor Wall Hanging Featuring Stencils

Hello dear friends,

Hema Bhat here and I am super excited about my first project as a DT member of Itsy Bitsy! Today I am using the new 4×4 inch stencils to create a super cute wall décor to inspire you for this month’s blog challenge.

These stencils are very easy to use on name boards, coasters, card making, fabric and all those projects with smaller working areas. The best part is you are spoilt for choice as there are so many to choose from.  I spent a good an hour and half deciding which ones to buy!

I found this beautiful wooden décor wall hanging in the Itsy Bitsy store and thought it was best suited for the new 4×4 inch stencils. I have incorporated Decoupage, heat embossing, stenciling with paints and texture paste on this base. The links of the materials used have been shared at the end of the post.

So let’s get started with the process:

Though the wooden base was ready to work on I wanted it to have an even tone so I mixed the Little Birdie Chalk paints Snow and Sandstone and applied it using a sponge dauber. I was happy with the result of a single coat.

I adhered this beautiful decoupage napkin on the 2 corners of the panel using Little Birdie Deco Magic Glossy. I gave a top coat of the Deco magic to seal the napkin before I moved on to stenciling.

This is how it looks after decoupage.

I arranged the three stencils as I per my idea and started the stenciling process.

On the top panel I choose the bird cage stencil. For which I used these wonderful colors of Little Birdie chalk paints Kiwi Mojito, Wild Moss, Marsh Green and Pineapple Lolly on the leaves, chalk paint Passionate Plum on the bird and chalk paint Charcoal for the bird cage using a stencil brush.

I recently started using these brushes and noticed that they give a crisp and neat finish when compared to sponge daubers. Take little paint to dab on the stencils. You can use masking tape to prevent the stencil from moving.

Also never don’t forget to clean your stencils immediately as once the paints/mixed media paste dries it’s a mountainous task to clean them. I usually keep a container filled with water or a wet wipe nearby to clean the stencils. If kept clean you can use them many more times on your future projects.

Now I moved to the bottom panel on which I stenciled the tree using Little Birdie Chalk paints- Drift wood and Charcoal on the bark and Kiwi Mojito, Wild Moss, Marsh Green and Pineapple Lolly on the leaves.

I wanted to highlight the bird cage in the top panel so I drew outlines on the black chalk paint using the Ranger Clear embossing pen and heat embossed it with Little Birdie silver embossing powder and heat gun. I am super happy with the result.

On the center panel I used the ‘Home Sweet Home’ stencil. I carefully wrote through it using the Ranger Black Embossing Pen and heat embossed it with Little Birdie Gold embossing powder and heat gun.

On the sides of the Home Sweet Home I used some Mixed Media Paste on the Mountain Peaks Stencil. Once it dried I gave some shades of chalk paints-Snow, Sand Stone and Pink Ballet.

Now it was time to varnish the entire project with 2 to 3 coats of Little Birdie Decor Varnish Glossy giving enough drying time in between.

On the center of home sweet home I adhered a heart shaped MDF (from my stash) and colored it with Little Birdie chalk paint- Bubble gum Pink. Last but not the least a butterfly from the handmade flowers pack sits beautifully next to home sweet home.

Here are some pictures of the completed project:

I hope this project inspires you to try the new stencils on your home décor projects and participate in the Itsy Bitsy Blog Challenge# 27- “Shine Your Creativity with Stencil”. Here’s Hema signing off wishing you all Happy Crafting.
