Your Wings Already Exist – A Mixed Media Layout

Hello guys,

I am here to share with you all a mixed media layout. This year I have been doing a lot of positive affirmations…..on my journal spreads, canvas and layouts. I feel we can achieve anything if we just stay focused and are aware of our abilities.

Here is a layout which is so full of motivation and positivity and it says “Your Wings Already Exists…All You Have to Do is Fly!

Here is a quick tutorial to show you how you can break a blank cardstock and make your own layouts on them.

I started with 12″by 12″ white cardstock and this quote sheet from Little Birdie ‘L’amour’ Paper pack. I have used fleece white cardstock…you can choose any other variant.

To protect my paper, I coated it with white gesso. Its important to protect your paper so that any colors or sprays you use do not seep into the paper. Then I choose this pretty stencil called ‘Flora Enchante’ and Grainy texture paste and stenciled parts of my cardstock.

I let it air dry which look hardly few minutes. Then I added colors using Ocean Mist Color Splash spray and Ranger Hickory Smoke Distress ink. I used only 2 colors with lots of water to get different tones on my background. Sometimes its simple yet beautiful!

It was time to build layers now. I started with some stamping. Used black archival ink and script stamp first . I also stenciled with Hickory Smoke distress ink and script stencil just to build interest on the layout. Then I added layers of threads, cheesecloth, packaging paper, random scrap papers and flowers. I added chipboard pieces between layers to add more interest and dimension to my layout.

The focal sentiment is frame using chipbaord shape ‘Twirly Rectangular frame’. I have heat embossed it with white embossing powder and added some white thread on the inside to give it a softer look. The wings areĀ  silver heat embossed to add a little transition in colors.

After the entire layout was built, I dry brushed with white gesso to tone down all the elements and bring the layout together. To add more interest, I stamped with flower stamps in random places and also added splatters in black, white and blue….this added so much texture to the layout.

The final step is my favourite where I added loads of sequins and glitter to the layout and also added crystal drops using soft gloss gel. When everything was dry, I distressed the edges of the layout and added Hickory Smoke distress ink and did some wonky stitch lines with a black pen. The final touches came from motivational words that I added in 3 places – Journey, Dreams and Explore. That completed my layout and I hope you all like it. Here are a few more close ups….
