The Primrose Affair

Hi crafty people,

Lekha here and I am back with a ‘Home Decor’ creation for you, which is the theme for this month’s Blog Challenge.  I would be up cycling an almost 20 year old instrument box . It’s one of my favorite boxes for stocking all my quilling supplies, stamps, and ink while I travel or have to take them for small workshops. A friend recently suggested to beautify this boring black box and here I am with my version.

Nothing else could have been more gorgeous than Itsy Bitsy’s Primrose decoupage papers. Coming from the Latin word, primus means first. This is why the primrose also symbolizes youth, and thus I thought of using these lovely decoupage papers to give this old box a youthful makeover.

The boring old box. I painted it with black gesso to give the surface an even finish and also to prime the surface.
I have fussy cut the image from the decoupage paper and used the Deco Magic decoupage glue to adhere the fussy cut image to the box.
Next, I have used a stencil to add a little depth to the background. For stenciling, use a sponge dauber with chalk paints and the dabbing technique to get crisp and smudge proof stenciled image.

For adding more dimension to the stenciled image, I have used acrylic heavy gel medium. Match the stencil with the design underneath and apply the gel medium in a thin and even layer in small parts using a spatula. The gel medium dries clear.

Once the gel medium dries, use the Little Birdie Decor Varnish to seal the art work on the box.

Here is the gorgeous box. Hope you like the makeover.

Hope you liked it and would try something similar to give a makeover to any boring old box or something else that desperately needs a colourful look.

Till we meet the next time……………keep crafting!!
