Sea Theme Altered Glass Bottle and a Pin-cushion……

Hi Friends

For today’s post,  I have upcycled a Jam Jar and a solitary Wine glass left from a set into a Sea theme set for a friend who is a sewing enthusiast. The Jar is to store all the bits and Bobbins and the Pin cushion for the needles. I made few pins for her using some jewellery supplies.

.

I have used SAILING SKY, SNOW and FROZEN ICE  shades of Little Birdie Matt Chalk Paints and Pearlized Metallic Paint in Brick Red.
I have also used Natural Sculpting Clay, Itsy Bitsy Flowers, Sea-shells, Hay, Burlap Ribbon for this project.
I created some moldings with Itsy Bitsy Modeling clay and adhered to the Glass Jar and the lid with glue before the clay dried. This way it was easy to shape these to the curved surface.
If you want to see my earlier work with Natural Sculpting clay without any need to bake the clay, you can see my post here

To create the distressed effect……
1. I first painted the glass with randomly mixing the three shades of chalk paints on the surface with a sponge, allow to dry.

2. Paint with metallic paint in Brick red in certain places and the edges.

3. Added petroleum jelly with my finger on the places I wanted the distressed effect.

4. Paint over carefully with the chalk paints, let dry

5. Using a fine Sanding paper scrape top coat in areas covered with Petroleum Jelly.
Embellish with sea-shells, lace and tiny Pearls

To create the Pin-cushion

To create the Pin-cushion, added few wads of newspaper in the bottom of glass, then added a piece of foam, covered with burlap ribbon and silicon glue, finished edges with burlap trim.
