Romantic Rose – Floating Candle

Hello Crafters!

Priyanka Shashi here! I simply love the pretty and romantic look of floating candles! And if its a rose shaped floating candle, it looks more romantic. Today I am going to share the step by step process of making these rose candles.

Material Required:

  1. Paraffin Wax (double of your mould/moulds)
  2. Silicon Rose Mould
  3. Wick
  4. Candle Dye/ Dyes (as per choice)
  5. Fragrance (optional)
  6. Stearin (optional)

Equipment required:

  1. Double Boiler
  2. Pouring Pitcher
  3. Wooden Skewers
  4. Hot Air gun/ Hair Dryer

I am giving instructions for making one rose candle. You can make up to 6 candles at a time as this mould has 6 cavities.

Step 1: Melting Wax and Adding Colour & Fragrance

Melt the wax in a double boiler. Add stearin in the ratio of 1:10.

Add candle dye (one pinch for each rose) and stir it with wooden skewer slowly in few intervals until the wax is melted.

Remove the melted wax from the double boiler and add 10 drops of fragrance for each rose candle.

Step 2: Pouring the Wax

Place the silicon rose mould on a hard movable surface: like a tray or wooden plank. Pour the wax into the moulds and leave it to cool down.

Step 3: Making Hole for the Wick

Generally we set the wick in candles before the wax pouring. But since in the rose mould the flower design is at bottom and we need it on top. So we need to make a hole in the candle to set the wick in the end. Once the wax begins to harden a bit into the mould, poke the wooden skewer in the center of the rose and make it stand with the help of other wooden skewers. This will create a hole in the candle for the wick.

Step 4: Unmoulding the Candle

Once the wax cools down completely, remove the skewers. Unmould the candle from the silicone mould.

Step 5: Setting and Sealing the Wick

Now this is bit tricky to set the wick. Take 2 inch wicks with metal tabs. Put the wick in the hole. Keep the rose design on top and plain side at bottom. Melt the wax a bit at the bottom with the help of a heat tool or a hair dryer to seal the wick.

Trim the top of the wick to 1/4 inch. Voila!! the romantic rose candle is ready. Have a look at the finished project.

Hope you like these romantic rose candles and you will try one for yourself.
