Pretty Pink Decoupage Bottle

Hello all, Sonal here today!

Hope you all are enjoying the DT inspirations, soaking in a lot of new techniques and creating your kind of projects!! Today I am here with my second DT post, which is a decoupage project. When it comes to decoupage, I just love making elegant, pretty , floral decoupage bottles. So let’s get started!!

Let me mention that Itsy Bitsy has a huge collection of decoupage tissues. I came across this particular tissue and immediately fell in love with the design. Hence, came the idea of making a decoupage bottle.

Here, I have used a discarded wine bottle. Thoroughly cleaned it with warm soapy water. Normally I soak the bottle overnight in soapy water. Remove all the labels and scrub it properly.

Now its time to prime the bottle.  I have used Little Birdie white gesso. Little Birdie’s gesso is a water based opaque primer. It can be used on canvas, glass, wood, paper, cardboard etc.  I applied two layers of gesso with sponge and allowed the first layer to dry before applying the second. Allow both the layers to dry naturally, use a hair dryer or  a heat tool if you want to speed up the process. Make sure the layers are completely dry before you proceed further.

It’s now time to adhere the tissue  and create a pattern on the bottle. With  wet thin round synthetic hair brush ( use water ) I separated few portions from the tissue. The idea was to create an overall pattern, all across the bottle. Creating an overall floral patterned decoupage bottle is my personal favourite style.

Most important part is to separate the layers of tissue. Generally decoupage tissues have 2 or 3 layers. The printed top layer of the tissue is used for decoupaging. Remember not to use the plain white layers and just use the topmost printed layer. One can separate the layers easily… If you aren’t able to separate the layers, just wet your finger tips a little and try.

I used Little Birdie Deco Magic matte glue to adhere the tissue. Created an elegant floral design all over the bottle by sticking different portions of the tissue. To  achieve a complete look , I used diluted chalk paints to give a spray paint effect on the neck part of the bottle.  (Used Little Birdie’s chalk paints… Lavender Blush and Misty Rose). I did so with a help of an old tooth brush. Once I was happy with the pattern, I sealed the tissue with Deco magic gloss glue, as I wanted a shine on the bottle. I sealed the entire bottle with Home Decor Varnish – glossy. My pretty decoupaged bottle is ready now.

By the time the bottle was ready, I felt like creating a tag for the bottle. For this, I used 2 pieces of cardboard tags which comes with ready made clothing. Adhered these 2 pieces with Little Birdie silicon glue to create a strong base. Primed both sides of the tag with white gesso. After that  I applied Little Birdie’s newly launched  Crackle Paste. I did it just randomly on the tag using a palette knife. After drying it gives a beautiful dimensional crackled texture. It’s a lovely product which mixed media artists would love to have it in their stash.

My intention was to experiment a little with Crackle Paste. So I tried drying the paste with a hair dryer.  Ideally one should let it air dry.  I will definitely come up with more projects using this paste. This tag was ready with a crackled base. I coloured it with diluted acrylic colours with water – pink and purple shades. Further, I added matching paper flowers, cheesecloth and  a sentiment tile from my stash to complete the tag. Voila! a beautiful coordinating tag was ready for my decoupaged bottle. Sharing few images of the completed project.

Hope you liked it. Will be back with some more interesting projects soon……….

Love Sonal!!

  1. Beautiful altered bottle and well explained tutorial. Even beginners can create this type of altered projects. I loved that idea of creating our own tags, using those cloth tags and using crackle paste yo create texure is a excellent idea.
