Mixed Media Wall Decor

Hello Friends. I hope you  all are having a great time!

DT member Vidhu Thareja, back on the blog with a new project. The ‘Mixed Media Challenge’ is on and a little inspiration is always welcome… . Today I have created a wall decor, using some of the Little Birdie Mixed Media craft supplies.  First  have  a look  at  my  project.

.

I took a MDF board measuring 12*8in and started with sanding the surface.

I primed the surface using Little Birdie Acrylic White Gesso. I have applied two coats of gesso, leaving enough drying time between each coat.

The next step was to create texture. I have applied Little Birdie Mixed Media Paste using a palette knife. I left it to dry. Then to enhance the texture, I have used Little Birdie Chalk Paints – Butter Milk, Fortune Cookie, Wild Wasabi, Misty Rose and Charcoal, using the dry brush technique. I have done dry brushing with all the colors, using the same brush.

Now I have created a brick effect. For that I have applied Little Birdie Mixed Media Paste through a stencil. To create a stone wall effect, I used Little Birdie Black Gesso. I have applied it through the ‘Stone Wall’ Stencil using a palette knife.

I wanted to give some mossy effect between on the bricks. For the purpose I have used Little Birdie Embossing Texture Paste – Avocado Smoothie. I have mixed a little amount of Chalk Paint – Charcoal in it. Did some dry brushing on the bricks with brown acrylic paint and with Chalk Paint – Snow on the stone wall. I had a beautiful chipboard 3D Open Widow in my stash which I had bought  from the store long back. I decided to use that. Itsy Bitsy has awesome range of chipboards. Do not forget to check them all out. I have painted the chipboard with Chalk Paint – Charcoal and then rubbed Metallic Wax – Antique Gold and Glimmer Moss with my finger and used a brush also to cover the corners.

I did not want to leave the window blank so for that I have used elements from the Little Birdie paper pack ‘ Shabby Chick Bouquet’. Instead of adhering it on the base directly, I have used a chipboard piece. I cut the chipboard according to the shape of window and then first adhered a cutout from another paper. Then I adhere the Element using Deco Magic Glue. I adhered one more element on the right top corner also. I have distressed the edges of both the elements before adhering them.

I  sealed the decoupaged element using the same Deco Magic Glue and then after some time applied Little Birdie Decor Varnish – Gloss on the whole surface.

Now it is time to add some flowers. I had chipboards – Luxurious Leaves and decided to use that along with Little Birdie handmade flowers. I wanted to add some interest to the flowers so I applied Little Birdie Sparkle Paste – Gold Glitz on the flowers. I paint the chipboard leaves with Chalk Paint – Wild Moss and then rubbed Metallic Wax – Glimmer Moss on top of it.

To highlight the brick effect a little more, I did some dry brushing with Chalk Paint – Terracotta. Finally arranged the flowers and stuck the window also. I had a chipboard cutout ‘ Sweet Life’. I dabbed brown acrylic color on it and then rubbed Metallic Wax – Antique Gold on it. For the left top corner I selected another beautiful chipboard ‘ Ornate Pole’, on which first I have  dabbed black Chalk Paint and then did dry brushing with silver metallic acrylic color. I have used Little Birdie Silicon Glue to stick the chipboards. A beautiful mixed media wall decor is ready.

I hope you liked my project and it  inspires you to create something unique and beautiful using the awesome mixed media supplies from Itsy Bitsy. Do not forget to share your creation for the mixed media challenge. We would love to see amazing creations from all our crafty friends.
