Mixed Media Altered Diary

Hello friends. I hope you all are doing great. DT member Vidhu Thareja back on the blog with a new inspirational project for the ongoing Mixed Media Blog Challenge. This time I have altered a diary using some of the awesome mixed media supplies from Itsy Bitsy.

I have a stepwise picture tutorial for you all. So without wasting more time let’s start the tutorial….

I had a plain diary so I decided to do makeover for it.
The first step is to prepare the base to work further. So I applied Little Birdie Acrylic White Gesso. I have applied 2 coats of gesso, leaving enough drying time between each coat.  Here I have used sponge, which helps to create a background texture also.

The next step, is to create more texture. For that, I have used Little Birdie Mixed Media Paste – White. I have applied it through Little Birdie – Script Stencil using a palette knife.

I left it to dry and then applied Little Birdie Black Gesso with a flat brush. To enhance the texture, I have done dry brushing with Little Birdie Chalk Paint – Terracotta and to further highlight the texture have rubbed Little Birdie Metallic Wax – Antique Gold. I have pasted a lace on the left side. Before pasting it I have covered the lace with Little Birdie Black Gesso, done dry brushing with Chalk Paint – Terracotta and then rubbed Metallic Wax – Antique Gold on top of that.

Now, it is the  turn to use some elements in the center. I had a chipboard frame and Little Birdie Primed Chipboard – Time Trail in my stash. I have covered the  chipboard frame and the  laser cutting part of the primed chipboard with black gesso and let it dry. I wanted to add some interest to chipboard frame and primed chipboard so I have used Little Birdie ‘ Clear’ Embossing Powder.

Here I was not very satisfied with the look of chipboard frame so I applied Chalk Paint – Salsa Red on the other side of the frame and then done embossing again. I have rubbed Metallic Wax – Rich Gold and Antique Gold on top of the embossing.

I wanted to add some more interest on the corners of the diary and for that I have used Little Birdie Embossing Texture Paste – Frosty Fizz. I have applied it through Little Birdie 4*4 stencil ‘ Dual Mandala’ with the help of palette knife and then used heat gun to get the desired embossed effect. After some time done dry brushing with Camlin Artist Acrylic Colors – Antique Gold  and Copper on top of that  and rubbed Metallic Wax – Copper Blaze with my finger.

Made some dots using Little Birdie Pearl Drops ‘ Redcurrant’.

Now it is time to add some flowers. I was having Little Birdie Handmade Flowers in my stash. I have done dry brushing with white gesso and then with Chalk Paint – Salsa Red on each flower and then sprayed Color Splash – Gold Rush on flowers  and sprinkled some Little Birdie Mica Powder.  Added glitter in the center of  each flowers with the help of Glossy Accents.

Finally, I stuck the chipboard frame, primed chipboard and flowers using soft gel medium. Added a sentiment cutout ‘Treasured Memories’. I have painted the chipboard with black gesso and rubbed Metallic Wax – Antique Gold with finger. A beautiful diary is ready to be gifted.
