Decoupage Moroccan Tray

Hello Crafters, DT member Nandhini Vasandan here and am back with a new and vibrant Moroccan Tray.

Wooden trays add a unique and personal touch to hosting guests at home. This Moroccan tray without a rim is a new and bold style. It makes a good gift too.

Let us now take a look at how I went about creating this tray.

I used an MDF board from the store. Itsy Bitsy has a wide range of MDF products and the quality is very nice. The surface is extremely smooth and does not require any preparation for working on it. This MDF oval base is 14inch X 22inch dia and approx. 12mm thick with carved edges.

I applied a single coat of white chalk paint on the MDF board and coloured the edges with Passionate Plum chalk paint.

I have used a Moroccan tile pattern filament decoupage paper and decoupaged it on the surface using Deco Magic glue.

I used two sheets of the same pattern to cover the entire surface and then I did silver gilding over the edges. For that, I applied leafing size over the edges and left it to dry for 20 mins.

When the leafing size turns tacky, I applied silver foil over it. I applied metallic wax Silver Glitz over the edges and finally, I sealed the entire surface using decor varnish matte.

In the end I attached two metal handles to the surface and my beautiful tray is ready .

Here are some more pics of this beautiful tray

Thanks.
