Rashmi Closepet M.D Itsy Bitsy: What are your favourite craft forms?

Rupali P Lal: I cannot name just one! I love experimenting with things. But after trying out different things, I have discovered my love for paper crafting, water colouring, decoupage and hand casting.

RC:  If you are granted an arty-crafty wish, what would you ask for?

RL: If I have to wish for something then undoubtedly a ‘Life Time’ craft supplies and that too for Free! How I wish someone grants me this wish!!

RC: How did you come to know about Itsy Bitsy?

RL: When I was pursuing my graduation every time on my way to college, I crossed an Itsy Bitsy store. I used to think that this store is for the high class crafters and professionals and since I was not a trained crafter, I used to hesitate to enter the store. But one fine day, I decided to enter the store. To my amazement the staff in the store was extremely cooperative. They helped me when I explained what basically I want.

RC: Tell us about your most exciting shopping experience at Itsy Bitsy.

RL: The very first day when I went to the store I met a sales executive who was helping me with my requirements and listening to me patiently and explaining about each and every product. At that time I was not aware about the professional terms used for several craft products. She guided me and on my very first day we became good friends and now whenever I visit the store everyone is aware about my requirements. Now, I get my products with so much ease.

RC: What craft products attract you the most?

RL: There are many but I like chippies, paper packs and tags the most.

RC: What is your ideal crafting time in a day?
RL: I am a teacher but I manage time for my passion and try to create something new regularly whenever I find time.

RC: What are your ‘Can’t live without’ craft essentials?
RL: I think each and everything! Whenever I see any craft product I just want to buy that without being sure if I am going to use those! But still if I have to pick one, it will be new designs of paper packs.

RC: How long have you been crafting?
RL: I inherited my knack for crafting from my parents. Both of them were craft enthusiasts. I have been crafting since my childhood but have been crafting as a professional from May 2016.

RC: Which 3 words describe your crafting style the best.
RL: Crazy, Unique and Innovative.

RC:  Any inspirational tips for newbies and craft enthusiasts?
RL: Just 1 thing- Always follow your heart no matter what comes in between but don’t give up on your dreams!

RC: Any tips for fellow crafters to help them organize their
workspace better.
RL: How to manage storing the craft supplies is the biggest problem for us (crafters). Phew! I am still looking for the best option but what I generally do is, I have created shelves and labelled the shelves so that I can find the required materials easily. I also keep small things in separate boxes like shells, tapes, stones and others.

RC: What inspired you the most in your creative journey?
RL:
Satisfaction. The satisfaction of creating and participation!

RC: According to you what’s the best way to overcome a creative
block?
RL: Wear your crafty hat….Create, showcase your talent, and let your work speak for you.

RC: Why do you think people should continue with ‘Handmade’?

RL: When you make something, you leave a part of yourself in it. When you are finished creating, you take pride in the work partly because you see yourself in it.

RC: Other than crafting what do you enjoy the most?

RL: Other than crafting I like spending time with my near and dear ones and creating moments with

them. I like to dance to drive away stress and worries.

RC: Which are the product categories you check out most often for
new arrivals?

RL: I love checking out the new stencil designs, paper packs and thincut dies.

Here is a step by step project by  Rupali

We used to play so much carrom in our childhood! I have so many memories with this carrom board….so and  I didn’t wanted to throw it.

So , I decided to preserve this carrom board and do something innovative and new.

Material Required:-

  • Black Acrylic
  • Desired coloured print out
  • Neon colours
  • 2 step crackle medium
  • Decoupage glue
  • Varnish

Steps by step process:

Cut a print out according to the size of the carrom board.

Stick thick sheets of paper onto the holes of the carrom board.

After setting your design, paint your surface with thick layer of neon colours. let the colours set. Stick the cut out with the help of decoupage glue.

Cover the complete surface with black acrylic paint.

After applying the black acrylic apply 2 step Crackle Medium over the coloured surface.

Let it dry and now you can add mirrors to enhance the look.

Tadda!!!

Your completely new decor piece is ready!

Thank you for your precious time and I hope you like my project.

Have an amazing arty-crafty day ahead!
