Crafter in the Spotlight Rituparna

Hello arty crafty folks! Hope you are enjoying the summer holidays with your kids and thoroughly taking pleasure in crafting. Today, in “Crafter in the Spotlight” I will share the story of Rituparna Pal, a talented crafter hailing from Bengal, currently settled in Haryana.

Rituparna comes from a family of historians and classical singers. She was surrounded by art and craft since childhood and hence crafting is her lifeline. Rituparna is always excited about learning new crafting techniques and believes in going with a flow. She adores Little Birdie’s Mixed Media range and is now addicted to Mixed Media.

Rashmi Closepet M.D Itsy Bitsy: Tell us a bit about yourself & your background?

Rituparna Pal: I am Rituparna Pal from the historical city of Berhampore, West Bengal, famous for its Sola wood, Ivory, Murshidabad Silk and Brass work. I currently stay in Faridabad, Haryana with my husband and my beautiful 1-year old daughter. I have completed my Masters in Political Science and have a diploma in Arts and Crafts. I have learned various crafting techniques from expert crafters for about 10 years. I also love to read, travel, cook and I am a big foodie.

RC: How did you get into crafting?

RP: I believe I have inherited crafting from my forefathers. I come from culturally rich family – my grandfather was a historian and my mother and sister are classical singers. I have been amidst art and craft, singing, dancing, poetry and theatre since childhood. My father has been my biggest inspiration. I have always loved making handmade cards, gifts, paintings for family and friends on different occasions. Gradually, my interest towards crafting increased and turned into my passion.

RC: What is your favourite type of craft?

RP: This is a really a difficult question to answer. I am inclined towards all forms of crafting and always look out to opportunities to learn something new. However, I have recently been hooked-on to the Mixed Media art form.

RC: What are your favourite products at Itsy Bitsy?

RP: I absolutely love all the products offered by Itsy Bitsy. The Little Birdie Handmade flowers are to die for!

RC: If you had magical powers, how would you contribute to the Crafting world?

RP: If I had magical powers, I would love to teach crafting to the poor and helpless for free. Learning how to craft might help them strengthen their financial position.

RC: Your prized possession in your craft stash from Itsy Bitsy?

RP: My prized possessions are Little Birdie’s Handmade Flowers, Metallic Paints, Embossing Texture Paste, Color Splash Sprays, Mixed Media Stones and all other Mixed Media releases.

RC: How would you describe your style of crafting?

RP: I do not have a particular crafting style. I just start creating and go with the flow.

RC: How do you organize your time for crafting?

RP: Crafting is like oxygen for me. I need to craft every day to live a satisfied and healthy life.

RC: Tips for people who want to craft

RP: Craft and create wholeheartedly, with dedication and passion. Enjoy your work!

RC: Your all -time favourite quote?

RP: There are no rules and no age bar to enter the limits of the sky.

Supplies used from the store:

Little Birdie handmade flowers
Color Splash Sprays – Charcoal and Paprika
Chalk Paint – Sailing Sky, Lemon Chiffon, Wild Moss, Rainy Day, Sand Stone, Pink Ballet
2 in 1 Modelling Paste – White
Other supplies – Silicon glue, Handmade designer leaves, Blue carbon sheet, ceramic old tea pot and Easel

I took an old ceramic tea plate and cleaned with a cloth. Next trace a design onto the plate with blue carbon sheet. Clean the extra spots from the carbon paper with wet wipes. Remember to draw small (mosaics) for the pattern that you are choosing since we are creating a mosaic painting.

I made my own colours for which I mixed 2 in 1 white modelling paste with Charcoal, Paprika color splash, and mixed some chalk paints – sand stone, sailing sky and brown paint (this is my experiment; you can make any color with white modelling paste. With the colors I created, I started painted some parts of the dear’s half body, stones and trees. Once the paint dries, I have added Little Birdie’s handmade flowers and designer leaves with Silicon to add finer details and beauty to the project.
