Rashmi Closepet M.D Itsy Bitsy: Tell us a bit about yourself & your background?

Nidhi Dokania: I am a student at CMRIT Bangalore. Currently an intern at Hewlett Packard, I was born and raised in Siliguri, a beautiful city in eastern India. It’s my engineering that brought me to Bangalore and I am glad because that’s what made me realize my dreams. I started crafting in my free time and started my own venture while in second year of college. I am now a proud and a passionate crafter, hoping to expand and see my venture grow!

RC: How did you get into crafting?

ND: I have been into crafting right from my childhood and all the credit goes to my mother. I have literally grown up watching her craft and believe in handmade gifts. After moving to Bangalore, I found a beautiful family away from home (my friends) who motivated me to realize my dreams and have helped me throughout.

RC: What is your favorite type of craft?

ND: That’s a tough question. Nothing specific! I do not have any favorite form of craft. I love experimenting each time I create and don’t believe in making the same things again. Even if I get an order, I request my client to allow me to experiment with it. I enjoy working with paper and recently have become a huge fan of hand lettering.

RC: What are your favorite products at Itsy Bitsy?

ND: I find Chalk Paints the best. I absolutely adore all colors and feel any project is incomplete without the touch of these beauties.

RC: If you had magical powers, how would you contribute to the Crafting world?

ND: I am already dreaming about it and it appears like a lot of fun! I believe in customization and I would just customize the world into a workshop where everyone is only crafting, using their individual creativity and thought.

RC: Your prized possession in your craft stash from Itsy Bitsy?

ND: Once again it’s the Chalk Paints. I also love the Color Splash and Alcohol Splash inks which I use in my Journal art work. I received them as a gift from a dear friend on my birthday so that I could start journaling.

RC: How would you describe your style of crafting?

ND: In one word – Personalized. I personalize every little thing I create, to make it special and different from the other creations. Adding a personal touch always works!

RC: How do you organize your time for crafting?

ND: I have been asked this question multiple times as to how do I manage engineering and crafting? Well it’s simple; you always have enough time for something you love. People spend their time hanging around watching television or listening to music, which is great! But I choose to multitask! I craft after college, after work and on weekends and hence there is sufficient time. Even during exams, my break time is for crafting to de-stress myself.

RC: Tips for people who want to craft

ND: Don’t give up, no matter how hard it is to manage it with other things. JUST DO IT!

RC: Your all -time favorite quote?

ND: If you can customize objects, why not CUSTOMISE YOUR DREAMS?

Here is a gorgeous project by Nidhi & the step by step procedure:

Trendy up-cycled bottle:

Supplies used from the store:

  1. Glass bottle
  2. Paints and Primers: Chalk paints – Charcoal, Acrylic Colours – White, and Camel Artist’s Gesso – White
  3. Sealants: Little Birdie Decoupage Glue
  4. Others: Sponge brush, regular paint brushes and pencils

Step 1:  To begin, apply Camel Artist’s gesso (white) throughout the glass bottle using a sponge brush and let it dry completely.

Step 2: Apply Chalk Paint (Charcoal) on the bottle to cover it completely and paint the cap in white. Apply a second coat, if required, for a better effect. Let the paint dry completely.

Step 3: Now let’s write the quote. It is advisable to first write with pencil and then paint over it to avoid any mistakes. Paint the quote in white. Let it dry completely.

Step 4: Apply a coat of Little Birdie’s Decoupage Glue (glossy) on both the cap and bottle to seal the project and to give it a clean shiny finish.

Make as many bottles as you wish with different quotes and writings. Gift them to loved ones or use as home or office décor pieces.
