Crafter in the Spotlight – Komal

Hello creative folks, this week an ardent crafter Komal is here with us to tell us about her arty-crafty journey on ‘Crafter in the Spotlight’.

Komal has several favourites when it comes to art and craft. She loves making jewellery, decoupage, resin craft among many others. She enjoys crafting in her free time and believes that everyone should learn art and craft techniques from a teacher to master it completely.

Rashmi Closepet: What are your favourite craft forms?

Komalkam Dedhi: Mixed media, Decoupage, Resin jewellery, decoupage jewellery, apart from that, painting, calligraphy, scrapebooking, everything related to art and craft.

RC: If you are granted an arty-crafty wish, what would you ask for?
KD: I would wish to have my very own craft store full of art and craft supplies.

RC: How did you come to know about Itsy Bitsy?

KD: From my crafty friends.

RC: Tell us about your most exciting shopping experience at Itsy Bitsy.

KD: Every time it’s an awesome experience. But the most exciting experience was when I shopped a lot during the opening of the Itsy Bitsy’s, R city, Ghatkopar, Mumbai store.

RC: What craft products attract you the most?

KD: Flowers, stencils, stamps, decoupage tissues, mixed media products, decoupage products.

RC: What is your ideal crafting time in a day?

KD: Any free time that I get for crafting…I utilize it!

RC: What are your ‘Can’t live without’ craft essentials?

KD: My scissors and glues and everything I have in my stash. (I carry my scissor wherever I go!)

RC: How long have you been crafting?

KD: It has been 20 years since I am crafting. I started with calligraphy, painting, drawing…then ventured into sospeso, decoupage, mixed media and other forms.

RC: Which 3 words describe your crafting style the best?
KD: Finishing, Dedication, Inspiration.

RC: Any inspirational tips for newbies and craft enthusiasts?
KD: Always learn from a teacher. A teacher always gives you tips and techniques which are missed out when learning from videos. (You can go through videos but you can’t get the exact knowledge which a teacher gives.)

RC: Any tips for fellow crafters to help them organize their workspace better.
KD: Always try to keep your products in place even when your project is not complete and you need to work on it later.

RC: What inspired you the most in your creative journey?
KD: My own projects always inspire me to do the best for the next project.

RC: According to you what’s the best way to overcome a creative block?

KD: Whenever I don’t get ideas for my next project …I go through all my previous projects. My old project always gives me great ideas!

RC: Why do you think people should continue with ‘Handmade’?

KD: Handmade is costly but it always made with care, love, and passion.

RC: Other than crafting what do you enjoy the most?

KD: Spending time with my son.

Here is a step by step project by Komal

Crafty people
This is Komal Dedhia.
I had come up with new project Chip Board Album Damask from Itsybitsy.
It includes total 8 sheets …1 cover page ,1 last page and 6 pages to work on.

Here is the Tutorial
1 . Front cover page.I had applied BLACK CHALKPAINT .Then applied some MIX MEDIA STONE on wet chalkpaint only.After drying done some golden gilding work using MONTE MARTE LEAFING SIZE n also TEXTURE TACK.After that given dry brushing of TINTED METALLIC PAINT SHIMMERY SHERBAT(PINK). Made a shaker from PRETTY IN PINK pattern papers.some diecuts from ITSY BITSY DIES,FLOWERS, N emblishments made of resin hardner from the store.(emblishments are painted with black chalk paint n done with METALLIC WAX GLIMMER MOSS)

2. 1st page is done stelling with Fibre paste,then added some tinted metallic shimmery sherbat and metalluc wax glimmer moss,embossing with wow rathtone paper and goldgilding.

3. 2nd page is done with randomly spread over fibre paste, then stamping with clear stamp n embossing powder (wow earthtone pepper),some metallic waxes glimmer moss and antique gold on fibrepaste.

4. On 3rd page done stecilling with circular stencil then paint it with pink chalk paint  then added some metallic wax ANTIQUE GOLD to it.

5. 4 th page is painted with black chalk paint then stencilling with white chalk paint n then page is become more attractive by using gold gilding technique using leafing size glue n texture tack too.

6. 5th page is painted with white chalk paint then done some texture with steciling then pink chalk paint.One step crackle is used to give crackle effect.

7.  6th n last page is of decoupage most vesatile technique . Decoupage with tissue from the store.Some Fibrepaste work in between space .coloured it with pink shades of chalk paints n some metsllic wax on flowers.
Thats it. This album can be used as scrapbook ,photo album for gifting, for personal use as album etc. This album contains Decoupage,crackling,stecilling with chalk paint,stencilling with texture paste, gold gilding embossing, use of mixmedia stone,shaker element, handmade resin emblishment mettalic wax etc
