Tell us a bit about yourself & your background?

Hi, I’m Gulreet but my friends and family know me as Gul. I’m an MBA in Marketing from TAPMI, Manipal. After putting in 13 years as a Sales and Marketing Manager with Air India, I finally quit the corporate jungle for the 2 loves of my life, my kids and CRAFTING.

How did you get into crafting?

Crafting has been in my blood since I was a kid. My mum still has trunks full of stuff I would experiment with, as a young girl. My school Welhams, Dehradun also gave quite an impetus to this hobby of mine and added polish to my crafting passion. Studies, career, marriage, kids happened but the crafter in me grew bigger and better as I always felt crafting is such a de-stresser. Now I am a full time crafter and love experimenting with different crafts.

What is your favourite type of craft?

Decoupage, Decoupage and more Decoupage….That’s my calling, I feel. I was made to Decoupage.

What are your favourite products at Itsy Bitsy?

I think Itsy Bitsy has opened the world for the Indian crafter, giving us products we could only dream of. Though I’m in love with mostly all the products but currently the 2 Step Crackle Medium is my favourite. It adds magic to most of my projects.

If you had magical powers, how would you contribute to the Crafting world?

If I had magical powers, I wish I had a wand with which I would just get any product at any time I want it!! While creating projects, sometimes we crafters get sudden brainwaves and need products to complete our projects that can’t wait for 2 days… till they arrive in the mail. My wand would help in that scenario!

Your prized possession in your craft stash from Itsy Bitsy?

My Chalk Paint collection….I have each and every colour… and I love them all! For decoupage, a tint here and a shade there matters! The collection offered by Itsy Bitsy gives a huge variety in matter of shades.

How would you describe your style of crafting?

My style…..hmmm…..It’s simple and uncomplicated…comes from the heart.

How do you organize your time for crafting?

As soon as the daily household chores are over, I rush to my craft table. Even if I’m not crafting actively, I’m browsing other craft projects, getting to know about other different products, introducing myself to newer crafts. For me it’s crafting whenever I get the time.

Tips for people who want to craft

A crafter can never mess up…Even if you think you’ve gone wrong you’ve created something new. Experiment, experiment and experiment…that’s how awesome projects are created. Never lose the mojo!

 Your all -time favourite quote?

You must have chaos within you to give rise to a dancing star-Friedrich Nietzsche.

Here is a Step by Step project by Gulreet

Stepwise  details of my Project-Distressed Jewellery Chest

  • Firstly I have unscrewed all the drawer handles.

Then I have coated the whole drawer chest with white gesso.

After that the top portion of the drawers has been painted with Itsy Bitsy white matte chalk paint.

With masking tape, I have sealed the 3 chests of drawers tightly.

After that I have torn out the portion of the tissue paper with which I’m going to decoupage the drawer chests and with Itsy Bitsy Decoupage glue pasted the tissue on the drawers and applied one more coat of Itsy Bitsy decoupage glue on top. After that I removed the masking tape and with a craft knife separated the 3 drawers.

Then I have painted the outer frame with Itsy Bitsy chalk paint (Marsh Green) .To give it an aged distressed look I have rubbed candle wax after the chalk paint has dried. On top of this candle wax coat I have painted the outer frame with Itsy Bitsy chalk paint (Lemon Chiffon). To distress rub lightly with sandpaper after the chalk paint has dried.

Lastly on the drawers, I have applied base coat of 2 step crackle paint and after top coat after the base coat has dried. To highlight the cracks I have rubbed in oil paint.

Lastly coat the whole drawer chest with decoupage varnish.
