Hello arty crafty friends! At Itsy Bitsy, we believe in celebrating creativity in every form and that is why every Thursday I am back with a story about the interesting journey of a crafter. Today in ‘Crafter in the Spotlight’, let’s hear it from an ardent crafter Aditi Vohra, who is originally from Bhilai but now settled in Hyderabad.

Rashmi Closepet M.D Itsy Bitsy: Tell us a bit about yourself & your background?

Aditi Vohra:   Let me first thank the entire Itsy Bitsy team for this wonderful opportunity. I am Aditi Wora, born and raised in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh and now residing in Hyderabad. I have completed M.E from BITS Pilani and worked for 5 years in a software startup. I quit my job after having kids. Currently, I am taking home tuitions for Math and Science. I am also associated with two NGO’s where I mentor girls in one and teach science to higher grade kids in the other. To keep my spiritual side active, I follow Buddhism and chant regularly.

RC: How did you get into crafting?

AV: While on maternity leave, I came across quilling and got extremely fascinated by its amazing possibilities. You can create so much with paper! You name it and quilling has the answer. I haven’t gone back to my software job and continued crafting with all my heart. After few years of working on quilling projects, I learnt many other techniques and craft forms.

RC: What is your favourite type of craft?

AV: I started with quilling and so it’s my one of the favorites. I enjoy making handmade products like customized albums, scrapbooks, cards, jewellery, photo frames, mixed media and more. I love decoupage as you can recycle/upcycle everything using this technique.

RC: What are your favourite products at Itsy Bitsy?

AV: I can spend hours at Itsy Bitsy the store. There are so many things to take inspirations from. The products which I love are chalk paints, decoupage glue, varnish, handmade flowers, chipboards, burlap laces, Fiber Paste, stencils and the list goes on.

RC: If you had magical powers, how would you contribute to the Crafting world?

AV: As you all know our planet is getting polluted day by day. To reduce that I would like to recycle every bit of material. Also, being a responsible crafter, I would like to make every craft supply eco-friendly, be it inks, varnish, colors and more.

RC: Your prized possession in your craft stash from Itsy Bitsy?

AV: Chalk paints and handmade flowers. Handmade flowers are so gorgeous that I didn’t have the heart to use them.

RC: How would you describe your style of crafting?

AV: I do not have any particular style of crafting but I usually keep things simple. One thing I am very particular about is the finishing. For me finishing of a product should be perfect.

RC: How do you organise your time for crafting?

AV: Presently, my workspace is my kitchen since I spend most of my time there. I sit to craft after completing daily morning chores to finish off my orders.

RC: Tips for people who want to craft.

AV: Creativity is within each one of us. Wherever we put our energy it grows. Nowadays, with tons of online videos, tutorials and craft supplies available in stores, we do not have any excuse. Just start creating and you will be amazed to see the hidden talent within you.

RC: Your all -time favourite quote?

AV: Give your 100% in whatever you do.

Here is a Step by Step project by  Aditi

Recently, I got order to design and make 10 decoupage boxes. An Indian company was going to launch their cancer medicine and wanted to keep their capsule box in these decorative boxes with Indian theme. Why Indian theme? As the medicine is made in India.

Client provided me the boxes. The client was clear that they didn’t want flowers, it had to be ethnic looking, have their logo and the boxes should be in light shade and not very bright.

I have painted it with Little Birdie Fortune Cookie chalk paint.

After that, I applied tissue using Little Birdie decoupage glue as shown in the picture.

The company logo has hexagons in it. So I wanted a stencil matching that. Guess who came to the rescue? Itsy Bitsy. I got a stencil from the store and did some stenciling.

Then more of stamping and stenciling…. was on the way. I used Little Birdie Mixed Media paste. I added brown acrylic color to bring it to that shade.

I have given one layer of decoupage glue and then one coat of Little Birdie varnish. I loved the varnish. It has awesome coverage and best part is it is water based and easy to handle. At the end, I have added lock and metal legs.

Finally I completed my order of 10 boxes. Happy Client.. Happy me.  This wouldn’t be possible without Itsy Bitsy. Thank you so much.
