Sparkly Mixed Media Canvas with Glitter Fabric Paints

Hi All,

Sumedha here. Today I am on the blog with a fun mixed media project where I have used fabric glitter paints in a unique way.

I started with a burlap canvas I had in my stash. First, I added clear gesso on it to prep the canvas for the colors which I am going to apply on it.Next, I added some background with the help of modelling paste and a stencil.

Next I  added some background with the help of modelling paste and stencil.

I added a lace from my stash and randomly pasted some torn book pages from an old book to give a vintage look to my canvas. I used soft gel medium to adhere the book pages and heavy gel medium for the lace. I added some splashes of Little Birdie Color Splash alcohol ink – Pink Punch on the lace.

I hand drew a mannequin cut out on a heavy cardstock and added an old book page to the shape. I distressed the edges with the help of ‘Vintage Photo’ distress oxide.

I took some dressing gauge and sprayed it with ‘Picked Raspberry’ distress stain.

I added Little Birdie Glitter Fabric Paint – Rosy Shimmer to the gauge on top of the sprayed part and randomly on the white part too. You can see it in the picture below. This gave a shimmery look to the gauge. I was going to use it for making a dress for the mannequin shape which I had cut out earlier.

I created the dress by randomly tearing the gauge and adding on my mannequin shape with the help of silicone glue and tied it at the waist with the help of a string of pearls. I  used a double sided tape at the back of the mannequin cut out for a 3D effect. I added some pre-primed chipboards and further sprayed my canvas with Picked Raspberry distress stain spray.

I added many more embellishments to the canvas like gear die cuts and butterflies (I used my Little Birdie Dream Cut die cutting machine, and dies from the store for the cutouts on a heavy cardstock). I used some dried moss and flowers to embellish the corners and some microbeads with the help of heavy gel medium to give more texture to my background. I added more colour with Frosted Pool alcohol ink to give a contrasting blue color to my background here and there. I added a journaling card from my stash at the centre of the canvas and stamped the sentiment on a white card stock with black archival ink and a floral banner stamp. I added a pink satin ribbon to the dress, half pearls in pink and yellow on my project randomly. I also added Little Birdie chalk paints   Lagoon Breeze and  Lime Mint on my butterflies and added a coat of Rosy Shimmer for the glittery effect on my butterflies.

This is how my final project looks. Hope you like it and will give it a try.
