Mixed Media Decorative Treasure Box

Hello creative folks,

This is Seema here!

I am back again with an interesting step-by-step tutorial.  I love to work with different kind of mediums to make my projects. This time I have selected mixed media form to make the box.

I am in love with mixed media art. The best part is that the Itsy-Bitsy store has each and everything related to mixed media or any other form of art.:)

Let’s start!!

I made a beautiful wooden treasure box using Thai Clay and other mixed media products from Little Birdie.

In the first step, I made my own embellishment using Thai Clay. Working with Thai clay is tricky and you have to be very quick while using it as it dries really fast. Please don’t hesitate to use a little amount of water to soften the clay.

In the first step, I made a small face embellishment using Thai Clay with the help of sculpture tools. Let it dry properly.

The second step starts with stencilling the design of my choice with the help of Little Birdie’s mixed media paste.

Once it dries start pasting any colour craft thread randomly around the embellishment. I have also added some flat back pearls and few round beads here and there.

Give the coating of Little Birdie’s white Gesso properly to the overall top.

In the next step, I have used Little Birdie’s Crackle Paste on the rest of the area. I am in love with this product. It’s such a great product for creating a crackled effect.

Here is the complete look of the box after putting Gesso on the top.

Start adding gold alcohol sprays to add beautiful colour to the box. You can sprinkle some water to make it lighter.

Colour the face using tinted metallic paint with a brush.

Next step is my favourite. I have added Silver Oak – Tinted Metallic Paint with the help of my fingers to the stencilled area as well as in the place where cracks appear.

I just loved this glossy mica kind of finish of Silver Oak metallic paint.

In the next step, I have distressed the edges of the box using Distress Inks.

This is how it looks at this step.

Now the decoration part: I have used few metal embellishments, some golden pearls, Little Birdie’s magical Bling Fiesta glitters, metal corners and Little Birdie’s glass Bead Gel Medium.

The top part of the box is done.

I have used chalk paint and Crackle Paste following with gold alcohol spray to decorate the side panels.

Aren’t these cracks awesome?? 🙂

And the mixed media treasure box is all set.

Hope you liked the project 🙂

Cheers

Seema
