Mini Canvas Decoupage Wall Clock

Hello crafty friends!

Daksha here today at the Itsy Bitsy blog! Excited to start my second innings with Itsy Bitsy. For this post I wanted to make something very special which I was planning to do for long time.  A new release of decoupage papers really gave me a kick start for this project! Let’s start with the creation and its detailed step by step instructions.

For this project I have used 12 pieces of 3″*3″ mini canvas and the base is  3/4″ thick plywood in 14″x14″.

Step-1:  First I sanded the board with a sand paper ( though board was quite smooth). Then I roughly arranged all the mini canvases as per my imagination and checked  how the arrangement was looking.

Next, I selected two decoupage designs to use for this project. I cut them into 3″*3″size and the middle with measurements 6.5″x 6.5″.

Then I decoupaged each mini canvas using Little Birdie Deco Magic, the premium decoupage glue and the 3″*3″ cutout designs. I really love these small cute decoupage canvases. While I worked, I kept getting loads of new ideas!

Next, I  applied Little Birdie white chalk paint in the middle and then masking the white boarder area, applied a coat of black chalk paint in the rest of the area outside. I used two coats of both.

Thereafter, I decoupaged the middle part where I am going to fix the dial. (it’s not stuck at this stage).

Then I gave a coat of black chalk paint to all the edges of the mini canvases. Wt this stage I wasn’t sure about using black, as I quite liked how the plain decoupage canvas looked without any boarder.

After placing and arranging all the mini canvases I did some stenciling with archival inks. This really changed the look of each design.

I wanted to use some rough texture to break the monotony, so I later used Little Birdie Sand Texture Paste with my fingers so I that could control the application even in the small areas. I wasn’t too sure about the white textured look, so to cover that, ( not completely)  I used gold gilding work only on some of the raised areas. I was happy with the result!  Finally I distress the gold gilded parts and all the edges with brown and black archival inks. Fixed the MDF clock dial in it’s place using gel medium.

At this stage I thought that my project is complete but then I got the idea from my leftover paper pieces to use that cute little butterflies somewhere on my design. so I did a volume decoupage.

For this, I applied required number of butterfly design pieces on a sospeso sheet using sospeso glue. Once it dried, I fussy cut them and gave volume to my design using a tea light candle and a wooden embossing tool.

Then using Little Birdie heavy gel medium, I fixed the butterflies in few places. You can see the result in the pictures that follow.

After completing the entire project.. I thought of using my favourite Little Birdie Tinted Metallic Paint in gold shade on the outside boarder. The end result is here for you to see!

Hope you liked my project. For any queries feel free to ask me in the comment section below. I will be happy to reply! Thank you for stopping by. See you soon with my next post. Till then take care and happy crafting.

Love n hugs
