Decoupage Watch Box – Tunes of Time

Hi friends, as we take a leap into a new year, here is a musical theme project to add those missing tunes and music in our lives to the new year.

I’m sure you all have been scurrying for wonderful gifts for your loved ones and I trust that this project would just fit the bill. This musical theme watch box is a perfect gift for one and all, who value and believe that their watches deserve a place of its own.

DT member, Nandhini Vasandan here with an inspirational and exciting post to show you how to create an attractive box for a watch.  Let us learn how to create this project using amazing products from Itsy Bitsy.

To begin with, I have taken a MDF box and sanded it to remove any dirt and  to smoothen the surface. I have used the filament decoupage paper “Music Room” for this project. You will find a wide range of designs of these papers at Itsy Bitsy. These papers come in 60 GSM thickness and are very easy to handle and they give a feel of rice paper. These papers are perfect for beginners and are easy to stick without any bubbles and wrinkles.

I first unscrewed the latches of the box and applied white gesso as a primer. To keep the box intact while doing decoupage, I pasted masking tape on the sides of the box.

I used Little Birdie Deco Magic glue – matte to stick the filament paper on the box, as I desired.

To ensure crisp borders, I used masking tape on the top. Next, I applied chalk paint – Charcoal, on the remaining surface of the box.

I used the script stencil and mixed media paste to add texture. On the sides of the box, I used various shades of grey. I created these shades by mixing black and white chalk paints.

To make the sides more vibrant, I stamped with a leaf stamp and archival black ink. Additionally, I added some patterns using stone pattern stencil.

I took  a chipboard with music notation design and used Pearl Drops to colour it. That helped me add a a 3D effect and I pasted them on the lid.

I used decor varnish matte to seal the complete project.

To add a metallic finish to the lid, I used a silver chain and metal microbeads -Summer Gold.

The magnificent watch box is now ready for gifting.

Time is precious and so are the time keepers. Watches need a place of their own for safe keeping. This wonderful watch box is just what you all have been looking for.

Here are some more pictures of the box!!!!
