Decoupage Home Decor

Hello crafty friends,

DT member Sabiha Khan on the blog today back with another beautiful home decor plate. It is beautifully done using newly launched  Filament decoupage papers.

These decoupage paper comes in 21 different designs with 60gsm thickness. They give a smooth finish and are easy to use. These have a feel that’s similar to rice paper. All the designs are beautiful and there are  awesome colours to choose from. They are good to go with any of your decoupage projects. They are a must have for every decoupage lover.

As you all know this months challenge on the blog is “Anything goes with filament decoupage papers” Challenge #30.

Lets make a home decor plate made using these decoupage papers.

Before beginning the step by step tutorial, let’s have a look at my finished project…

I chose a round MDF surface as my base. These are available at Itsy Bitsy store. To decorate it, I choose the filament decoupage paper design – Music  Room. It comes in A4 size paper, set of 2 coordinating designs.

Primed the surface using Little Birdie white gesso using a flat brush and sponge. To get a good finish, I applied 2 to 3 coats of it giving enough drying time in between the coats.

Next. I took the filament decoupage paper and fussy cut the images which I wanted to use. The paper is easy to tear, and I tried to tear the edges so that they blend in with the background properly.

Next. I used Deco Magic – Matte decoupage glue to adhere the papers on my round panel, as shown in the picture.

Thereafter, I did some stenciling on the panel using a Little Birdie stencil and Mixed Media Paste. I have used a palette knife to do the stenciling work. You can also use a credit card or any hard smooth surface to do it.

Blended the rest of the background with a mix of black and white gesso. Trimmed off the extra edges of the decoupage paper using a sand paper. Now, took two shades of Little Birdie chalk paints Rose Blush and Sangria to highlight the background colour. I have used my fingers to get this effect.

Also used some Little Birdie metallic wax Silver Glitz to highlight the textured stone surface. Metallic wax can be easily applied with fingers.

For the sentiment, I used a Little Birdie primed chipboard. They have awesome collection for the same. It was hard to decide from the wide range available. Finally I went with the sentiment ‘Live the Moment’. Coloured the sentiment black before adhering it on my project.

Before decorating the project with flowers, I applied 2 to 3 coats of Decor Varnish – Matt.

How can a project be complete without using beautiful flowers from Itsy Bitsy. So took some coordinating handmade flower bunches to enhance the beauty of my project.

Adhered the flowers using a silicon glue from the store. Also used some silver micro beads from the store on my project. And yeah….. its done.

Some close ups …

Hope you loved the decor piece and I was able to inspire you all. Now, get going……. take part in our ongoing Blog Challenge #30 and share with us your projects created with Filament Decoupage Papers.
