Rashmi Closepet, MD, Itsy Bitsy: Tell us a bit about yourself & your background?

Sowmya Chethan : Hi! I am Sowmya Chethan from Bangalore. A graduate in commerce, a full time mom and an accidental crafter!! Not in any order I have worked in travel and hospital industry before but I have never enjoyed my work as much as I do now as a crafter. I discovered the crafter in me two years ago and since then it has been a great journey. I love travelling….and music is my all day companion without which I cannot live. I am a big time food and coffee addict, and my day never starts without a cup of strong coffee….I wish and hope the crafting passion will always stay with me.

RC: How did you get into crafting?

SC: Quite accidentally. It was actually while planning my daughter’s birthday. Prior to it I had not even cut a piece of paper let alone call myself a crafter.

RC: What is your favourite type of craft?

SC: Creatives made out of foam and felt. Of late decoupage is something I love doing.

RC: What are your favourite products at Itsy Bitsy?

SC: The answer would be ‘Many’, but to name a few – foam sheets, felt sheets, cutting boards and almost every item that can be used as embellishments.

RC: If you had magical powers, how would you contribute to the Crafting world?

SC: By creating cutting dies in every shape and size.

RC: Your prized possession in your craft stash from Itsy Bitsy?

SC: My Big Shot machine.

RC: How would you describe your style of crafting?

SC: Totally creative freedom without constraints

RC: How do you organize your time for crafting?

SC: Wish I Knew 😉 but crafting finds me and my time magically

RC: Tips for people who want to craft

SC: Start now, don’t wait for the perfect creation. Be patient!

RC: Your all -time favourite quote?

SC: Whatever happens, happens for good….ep procedure:

Step 1 and 2. Choose the base and even-out all the rough edges by using a sand paper.

Step 3. Choose the base colour, I selected a Chalk Paint, and apply 2 coats for even finish . Used the flat brush for smooth and clean application.

Step 4: Let it dry completely

Step 5: As I wanted a bit Indian touch on the project so chose the stencil accordingly and the colour which suits Indian tradition. Applied the acrylic paint on the stencil using circular motion instead of dabbing as I wanted to achieve a thin layered finish.

Step 6: Love these Little Birdie chipboard embellishments and  letters as they add more depth to the product since they have pretty designs which make the letters look extremely elegant.
Step 7 : I preferred colouring the embellishments as I wanted to add more colour to the project. So I chose a bit brighter and deep colour since the base was done in a light shade. Simply dabbed paint on the chipboard letters.

Step 8 : Be gentle while applying colour on chipboards as they are delicate and let it  dry completely before use.

Step 9 : Once the colour on embellishments dried completely, I glued them to the base using Craft glue (my preference of glue for chipboard)
Step 10 : Apply a coat of wood varnish to seal everything… !!

Here are a couple of  Sowmya’s other awesome creations:
