Celebrate Love – Mixed Media Decor

Valentine’s Day is gone but love is in the air all through the year… Today I will share the step by step process of a mixed media decor I created, to Celebrate Love!

Handmade gifts are not just special, but throws in a whole new meaning and value for the gift, for your loved ones. I have used loads of mixed media techniques to make this decor piece.

Let me take you through the steps in making this wonderful piece.

I started with

Step 1

I have taken four MDF cubes and primed with white gesso. Then I used Little Birdie ‘True Love’ paper pack and trimmed to size as per the cube faces. I decoupaged the paper using Little Birdie Deco Magic glue – matte. These papers are even ideal for scrapbooks, albums, cards and journals.

Step 2

Since the cube have six faces, I attempted to use different techniques to decorate each face. For the second face of the cubes, I created texture with mixed media paste, Stone Texture paste – ‘Graphite Dust’, stencil and chip board bricks. Then covered the texture with black gesso. I added a circular chipboard which was also coloured with black gesso using silicon glue.

Step 3

To further highlight the texture, I used chalk paints ‘Pineapple Lolly’, ‘Walnut Cream’, ‘Passionate Plum’ and ‘Salsa Red’. Then iI added heart 3D handmade embellishments as my focal point.

Step 4

For the next face, I created texture similarly and used Little Birdie Alcohol Splash – Marigold and Wild Rose to colour them. I highlighted the texture using black. Then added a few primed chipboards and handmade embellishments.

Step 5

I wanted to keep the next face plain without texture, so I coloured it using the same set of chalk paints. To add themes on the face, I randomly stamped with different romantic theme quotes. I coloured the MDF cutout; LOVE, using 3D Pearl Drops and added on the face. Then I added handmade flowers, metal micro beads – Summer Gold, Gala Pink, Hearty Mélange, Golden Hearts and Crimson Hearts to add finesse to the project.
