“Altered Terracotta Pot”

Hello creatives,

Roopashree here! I am back with my 2nd DT post and this one is also a n inspiration for the home decor theme. Delighted to share the pictorial of this altered terracotta pot.  This pot was lifelessly, lying on the shelf for about 5 years now…I am so glad it got a makeover after ages & made justice to its wait.

Let get into designing.

Step 1:
Take a terracotta pot,  give a coat of black gesso. It will act as a primer. Let it dry completely.

Step 2:
Now  we will add some texture to the surface. Here I have taken aluminum foil, cut into required length; crushed it & stuck it to the surface covering the entire pot using glue.
PS: Crushed aluminum foil gives a great texture background.

Step 3:
Apply a coat of black gesso to cover the foiled surface & to give a base coat.
To add more interest & texture I have used Little Birdie Grainy Texture Paste & Fiber Paste, applied it randomly in few places.

Step 4:
Decorated the pot with embellishments available in the store. You can use metal charms, jewelry findings, metal beads, primed chipboard, bottle caps, handmade flowers etc. I have added some embellishments from my stash, layered & arranged them as shown in the image. I have used heavy gel medium to stick the embellishments. Wait till everything dries and only then continue with the next step.

Step 5:
Give a coat of black gesso covering the embellishments. Wait for it to dry naturally or use a heat gun to fasten the process.

Step 6:
Now using the dry brush technique, apply white chalk paint. This way you can see black and white both the colors. Let it dry.

Step 7:
Now select any 2 or 3 chalk paint colors & color the flower & leaves with dry brush technique.
Here I have used Orange Splash, Lemon & Marsh green to highlight the flowers.

Step 8:
Lastly I added jute thread at the bottom & around the neck of the pot.

Here are a few clicks of the finished project.
